Oura Ring 5: A Refined Smart Ring for Newcomers

Oura's latest smart ring, the Ring 5, embodies a philosophy of simplicity. While it doesn't introduce groundbreaking features, it polishes the existing experience, making it an ideal entry point for those new to smart rings. For current Oura owners, however, the incremental upgrades may not justify an immediate purchase.

The Ring 5 retains the familiar design and core functionality: sleep tracking, activity monitoring, and readiness scores. The improvements lie in subtle refinements—better sensor accuracy, a slightly more comfortable fit, and a more intuitive companion app. These enhancements make the ring feel more polished, but they aren't revolutionary.

"It's the best smart ring for people who've never worn one before," says reviewer Victoria Song. "For everyone else, wait until your current ring gives out."

The battery life remains competitive, lasting up to seven days on a single charge, and the ring is still water-resistant to 100 meters. However, the lack of new sensors or features like built-in GPS or blood oxygen monitoring (beyond what Oura already offers) means that Gen 3 owners won't miss much.

In essence, the Oura Ring 5 is a testament to the "less is more" approach. It doesn't try to do everything; it just does what it does very well. That makes it a great choice for first-time buyers but a skip for loyalists.
