Pag-IBIG Launches P10,000 Emergency Loan as Middle East Conflict Strains Finances

The Pag-IBIG Fund has introduced a new emergency loan facility of up to P10,000 to assist members grappling with the financial fallout from the ongoing Middle East conflict.

Dubbed the Special Assistance for Financial Emergencies (SAFE) Loan, the program allows qualified members to borrow up to P10,000 or 90% of their Pag-IBIG savings, whichever is lower. The loan carries a low annual interest rate of 5.95% and offers flexible repayment terms of up to three years. For a P10,000 loan, monthly payments can be as low as P308.

Applications for the SAFE Loan are open until September 8, 2026. Members who already have existing multipurpose or calamity loans may still qualify, subject to borrowing limits.

Housing Secretary and Pag-IBIG Fund Board Chairman Jose Ramon Aliling emphasized the timely nature of the relief, noting that fuel and household costs may remain high despite the tentative US-Iran peace deal. "In response, Pag-IBIG Fund is offering the SAFE Loan so qualified members may have access to affordable cash assistance for urgent household needs, especially as the effects of the Middle East conflict continue to be felt in fuel, electricity, transport and other daily expenses here at home," he said.

Pag-IBIG Fund CEO Marilene Acosta highlighted the loan as a safe alternative to high-interest or predatory lending options. "We made the SAFE Loan simple and easy to access so our members can apply with greater convenience and receive their loans quickly once approved," Acosta stated. She added that members can apply through Virtual Pag-IBIG or at any Pag-IBIG Fund branch, with proceeds credited directly to their Pag-IBIG Loyalty Card Plus. The loan also features a three-month grace period before the first payment.

The initiative aims to provide quick, affordable financial support to members facing economic challenges stemming from the conflict.
