Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir departed Tehran on Wednesday following high-level meetings with Iranian officials, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif returned to Islamabad after concluding talks in Turkiye. Both missions shared a common objective: laying the groundwork for another round of direct negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
"Pakistan finds itself in a unique position to act as an honest broker," said a senior diplomatic source familiar with both trips. "Our relationships with both capitals, while complex, provide channels that few other nations possess."
The parallel diplomatic efforts come amid heightened regional tensions and stalled nuclear negotiations. Pakistan's dual-track approach—combining military-to-military engagement through General Munir's visit with political diplomacy via PM Sharif's talks—represents what analysts describe as a "whole-of-government" strategy to revive the dialogue process.
