The parents of Celeste Rivas, the 14-year-old allegedly murdered by singer D4vd, were investigated for child neglect and abuse about a year before her death — but law enforcement found no evidence of wrongdoing, TMZ has learned.
When Celeste first went missing from her Lake Elsinore, CA home, the Riverside County Sheriff's Office opened an investigation on April 27, 2024 — about two weeks after she was reported missing for the second time.
It's unclear who filed the complaint, but RCSD told TMZ the person "expressed concern about a juvenile who had run away."
Deputies responded and interviewed everyone present at Celeste's home, but the investigation turned up no evidence of child neglect. However, RCSD noted that deputies were unable to interview Celeste because she "had not been located" and therefore "were unable to determine if a crime had occurred."
Celeste's family reported her missing in February and April 2024. According to prosecutors, Riverside County deputies contacted D4vd on Feb. 17 after finding his number in Celeste's phone records. He claimed he had last spoken to her on Feb. 13 or 14, but said he didn't know she was a minor or missing.
Prosecutors say Celeste returned home to Lake Elsinore two days later, and her parents took her phone. D4vd allegedly got back in contact with her by driving to Lake Elsinore and paying one of her junior high classmates $1,000 to give her a phone he'd bought.
D4vd has since been charged with first-degree murder with special circumstances, making him eligible for the death penalty.
