Philippines' Renewable Energy Push Gains Momentum with New Solar Park Launch

PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC) has initiated electricity injection to the national grid from its newly commissioned 25-megawatt solar facility in Pangasinan, marking a significant step in the Philippines' renewable energy expansion.

Dave Gadiano, PGEC assistant vice president, emphasized the project's alignment with national priorities, stating: "This facility's milestone meets the administration's urgent imperative to bring more indigenous and renewable energy capacity online, especially during this period of energy supply instability."

The Bugallon Solar Power Project began testing and commissioning on April 18 after securing all necessary permits. Once preoperational testing with the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines concludes, the solar park will operate under a fixed 20-year tariff arrangement, secured through the government's green energy auction program.

This development is part of a broader 111.6-megawatt portfolio comprising four utility-scale solar projects under Rizal Green Energy Corp., a joint venture between PGEC and Japan-based Taisei Corp.

In related renewable energy news, PGEC's 13.2-megawatt Nabas-2 Wind project in Aklan recently obtained final certification for grid connection. Gadiano noted this development would provide cleaner power to tourism and business establishments in Boracay and Aklan while leveraging ongoing transmission infrastructure improvements.

The Department of Energy highlighted that such projects address rising power demand, enhance system reliability, and encourage continued private investment in renewable energy assets across the country.
