Philips Hue has introduced its first wired wall modules, a new accessory that allows users to integrate and control non-smart lights within the Hue ecosystem. The modules, called Wired Wall Switch Modules, fit behind existing light switches and connect wired lights to the Hue bridge via a wired connection, enabling app-based control, scheduling, and voice commands.
The modules are designed for permanent fixtures like ceiling lights and wall sconces that are not already part of a smart system. Unlike Hue's wireless dimmer switches, these modules require a wired installation and are intended to be hidden behind the wall plate, where they communicate with the Hue bridge over Zigbee.
Signify, the company behind Philips Hue, says the modules offer a simple way to bring older, non-smart lighting into the modern smart home without replacing bulbs or fixtures. Users can pair the module with an existing wall switch or use the Hue app to control the light directly. The modules do not support dimming for all bulb types, but they work with most incandescent, halogen, and LED bulbs.
Currently, the Wired Wall Switch Modules are only available in Europe, with pricing set at €49.99 for a single module. There is no word yet on a US release. The modules are part of Hue's broader push to expand its ecosystem beyond its own branded bulbs and fixtures.
For users already invested in the Hue system, this accessory provides a new level of integration for non-smart lighting. However, the limited regional availability may frustrate customers outside Europe.
