Police Escort to Vardy's House: 10 Years Since Leicester's Fairytale Premier League Title

Ten years ago, Leicester City pulled off one of the greatest shocks in sports history by winning the Premier League at 5,000-1 odds. The night the title was confirmed sparked surreal scenes, including a police escort for players trying to reach Jamie Vardy's house party.

Marc Albrighton recalled the chaos: 'I got my parents to drop me at Jamie Vardy's house, but they had to drop me at the police station instead because too many fans were outside his gate. I got a police escort in.' At the station, he found teammate Ben Chilwell already in the custody suite. Together, they were driven through crowds of fans banging on the police car windows.

Leicester's triumph, led by manager Claudio Ranieri and stars like Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, and N'Golo Kanté, remains a benchmark for sporting underdogs. However, the club has since suffered back-to-back relegations, dropping to the third tier. Former captain Wes Morgan insists the title win remains untarnished: 'Regardless of what's happened, the club, the fans, and everyone will celebrate that time.'

Morgan, part of a core group that also won the Championship in 2014, reflected: 'If you put into context where Leicester was—having not been in the top flight for so long and just avoiding relegation the season before—we've got to be right up there in the conversation for the best sporting achievement ever.'
