Prosecutors have been accused of being overly aggressive in their pursuit of former Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung, with the latest developments implicating Kim Seong-tae, a key figure in the Ssangbangwool group's illegal remittances to North Korea.
Commentator Kim Seong-wan, appearing on a news program, voiced skepticism about the investigation: "The prosecution claims Lee never met Kim Seong-tae or sought any quid pro quo, yet they made remittances to the North large enough that even out of gratitude, Lee should have met him. But Kim testified they never met? That defies logic."
Kim Seong-wan further stated: "I don't fully trust Kim Seong-tae or Nam-wook. All witnesses mix truth and lies. However, Kim's claim that he never communicated with Lee has been reconfirmed. But his denials of stock manipulation and lavish parties with prosecutors are likely false. Ssangbangwool had no viable business in North Korea; the remittances were tied to stock manipulation. Now Kim is trying to deny all charges."
