Sony has started beta testing a Community Activity widget for the PS5's Community Hub, giving users a glimpse of how many players are active in certain games. However, the feature is not designed to help the average gamer decide which titles are popular.
The widget, spotted in the latest beta firmware, displays player counts for specific activities within games. While this might seem like a long-awaited answer to calls for transparency, the data appears to be locked to the Community Hub and not visible on game store pages or trophies lists.
Critics argue that without broader public access, the feature does little to address players' desire to gauge a game's active community before purchasing. Sony has not announced plans to expand the widget's visibility beyond the beta test.
