Defending champions London Pulse delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, overwhelming Birmingham Panthers 78-45 in the Netball Super League—the largest winning margin of the season so far.
Pulse took control from the opening whistle, establishing a 24-8 lead by the end of the first quarter and extending it to 42-18 at halftime. The victory marks their third consecutive win and lifts them to second place in the standings, surpassing Manchester Thunder, who fell to league leaders Loughborough Lightning.
"We needed a game like this. We all came together, we knew exactly what we had to do. We're really proud of ourselves," said Pulse's player of the match Funmi Fadoju. "It was so important for us to show we're not a one-dimensional team. It just gave us confidence going into the second half of the season."
Head coach Sue Bird emphasized the importance of building momentum as Pulse aim to defend their title. "When our defence and attack come together like they did today, we're a very dangerous team," Bird noted. "We've been adjusting a couple of things in training, and the girls have taken that on really well. I know when we're winning ball, that's our identity."
Meanwhile, Loughborough Lightning maintained their perfect record with a 68-58 victory over Manchester Thunder at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham. Samantha Wallace-Joseph led the scoring with 26 goals as Lightning secured their sixth straight win, solidifying their position at the top of the table.
The loss drops Thunder to third place, though they remain ahead of Nottingham Forest, who suffered a 62-57 defeat to Dragons in the first game of a Nottingham double-header. Rolene Streutker top-scored for Forest with 27 goals, but it wasn't enough to secure a win.
In Saturday's evening fixture, London Mavericks defeated Leeds Rhinos 54-44, improving to three wins from six matches this season. Leeds now sit seventh with just one victory, while Birmingham Panthers remain at the bottom of the table without a win.
Pulse will next face London Mavericks in a derby clash, marking the halfway point of the regular season.
