Quezon City Faces Planned Power Interruptions Over Weekend for Grid Maintenance

Residents in several areas of Quezon City should prepare for scheduled power outages from April 21 to 23 as the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) conducts essential maintenance work.

According to the Manila Electric Company (Meralco), the interruptions are necessary to allow NGCP teams to perform critical upgrades on transmission lines and substation equipment. These planned works aim to enhance the reliability and stability of the power grid serving the metro.

"We advise affected customers to take necessary precautions and prepare for the scheduled power interruptions," a Meralco representative stated in an advisory.

The utility company emphasized that these outages are pre-arranged and part of regular maintenance protocols to prevent unexpected failures during peak demand periods. While specific affected barangays and exact timing details were not provided in the initial announcement, Meralco typically releases granular schedules closer to the implementation date.

Residents are encouraged to keep electronic devices charged, secure perishable food items, and make alternative arrangements for medical equipment requiring continuous power. The power distributor also reminded customers to treat all downed power lines as energized and dangerous, reporting any electrical hazards immediately to their emergency hotline.

This maintenance comes as the Philippines prepares for increased electricity demand during the summer months, when temperatures typically soar and air conditioning usage spikes across urban centers.
