The confrontation, which occurred on Thursday morning, saw dozens of residents forming human barricades and chanting slogans against what they called "forced evictions."
Local officials claim the demolition is part of a long-planned road widening project intended to ease traffic congestion in the area. However, residents argue they were given insufficient notice and have nowhere to relocate.
"They came with bulldozers and police at dawn," said Maria Santos, a 45-year-old resident who has lived in the community for two decades. "We have children and elderly here with no alternative shelter. This isn't development—it's displacement."
