Reform UK Wales Deputy Leader Reverses Stance Mid-Interview After Farage Weighs In

The deputy leader of Reform UK in Wales, Helen Jenner, performed an abrupt about-face during a live television interview on Wednesday, after learning that party leader Nigel Farage had called for an apology over a controversial social media post.

Jenner had initially refused multiple opportunities to demand an apology from prominent Reform backer Arron Banks, who was accused of questioning the Welsh identity of a black Plaid Cymru campaigner. In an online post, Banks had written "Welsh lad?" in reference to the campaigner.

During the Newyddion S4C interview, Jenner declined to call for an apology five times. However, when informed that Farage had told BBC Wales that Banks should apologize, she immediately changed her position.

"I think that someone that's put something like that out, that's been taken in that way, should apologise, clarify what they mean," Jenner said.

The incident highlights internal tensions within Reform UK as it prepares for the 2026 Welsh Parliament election.
