Regis Prograis Hangs Up Gloves After Emotional Defeat to Conor Benn

Former two-time world champion Regis Prograis has officially announced his retirement from boxing at age 37, following a decisive loss to Conor Benn this past weekend.

The American super-lightweight star revealed his decision after falling to Benn at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night, confirming to Ring Magazine that he had planned this exit for months.

"Going in, I knew I was going to retire," Prograis stated. "This is my last fight. I knew this months ago—I just didn't tell anybody. It's a great fight to be my last against someone like Conor Benn, with 70,000 in a stadium. I couldn't ask for a better going away party."

Prograis admitted he entered the bout carrying an injury and nearly withdrew just 24 hours before stepping into the ring.

"The rumors about me being hurt were true," he confessed. "I wanted to pull out of this fight so bad a month ago but kept pushing. I was terrified and thinking about pulling out even yesterday."

With a professional record of 30-4, including 24 knockouts, Prograis leaves behind a legacy that includes the WBA super-lightweight title in 2019 and the WBC super-lightweight crown from 2022 to 2023. His final bout against the rising British contender Benn marks the end of a career that saw him compete at the highest levels of the sport.
