Former NBA star and actor Rick Fox found himself in a physical altercation at a campaign event in the Bahamas this week, alleging that he and his campaign manager received death threats. The incident, captured on video, shows Fox—currently running for political office—arguing with a man over the placement of a campaign tent.
In the footage, Fox and his campaign manager, Carlyle Bethel, are told to move their tent. When Fox asked about the rules, an unidentified man responded, "I don't give a f*** about no rules." Fox then lunged at the man, but Bethel held him back. The three-time NBA champion shoved his manager away, telling him to get off, and then stepped in front of the camera, flexing and saying, "Right here for y'all, all day long."
Fox later told TMZ Sports he was defending himself and his team. "The opposition party that is in power are notorious for victimizing and bullying Bahamians," he said. "But I've been standing up to them, and in this video, my campaign manager's life was threatened and so was mine by someone on their party as we are Advance Poll voting [Thursday]."
Fox, known as the "enforcer" during his NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers, added, "I stood up to the bully no different than my basketball career when I was the enforcer. Someone threatens a teammate's life or threatens my life, I will defend to the death if necessary."
No injuries were reported, and the altercation did not escalate further. Fox is expected to learn the election results in the coming weeks.
