The family of Celeste Rivas has chosen to remain silent following the revelation of horrifying details about her murder, their attorney said Wednesday.
Patrick Steinfeld, the family's lawyer, told TMZ that he had to relay the disturbing allegations made against musician D4vd—including claims that he allegedly watched Celeste bleed out and later used a chainsaw to dismember her body. Steinfeld described it as the hardest conversation he's had in 37 years of legal practice.
Originally planning to speak publicly throughout the criminal proceedings, the family has now decided against making any statements. In a statement, Steinfeld said: "In light of the gruesome details emerging almost daily, the family has decided not to make any statements now or in the future. There are no words to express the indescribable pain the family is experiencing right now. They still have bills to pay and jobs they go to every day. All they want is time to grieve and heal. Please grant the Rivas Hernandez family grace and compassion."
The attorney noted the family fully supports L.A. County District Attorney Nathan Hochman, who has not yet decided whether to seek the death penalty against David Burke, known professionally as D4vd.
Burke was arrested earlier this month and charged with first-degree murder. Prosecutors filed court documents Wednesday outlining their case against the star. He has pleaded not guilty and is demanding a prompt preliminary hearing.
