Rockstar Games has announced that players can upgrade their existing copies of Grand Theft Auto V to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions at no cost, just months before the highly anticipated release of GTA VI. Starting June 18th, anyone with a PS4 copy or a digital Xbox One version can claim the current-gen upgrade for free, bypassing the usual $39.99 purchase price or previous upgrade fees.
This offer applies to any edition of GTA V on PS4 and the digital version on Xbox One. Physical Xbox One owners, however, must have a disc drive in their Series X to redeem the upgrade, as the Series S is disc-free. Rockstar confirmed that the free upgrade will be available directly through console stores or via in-game prompts.
The move comes as a welcome surprise to fans still playing GTA V on older hardware, especially with GTA VI expected later this year. The enhanced version for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S features improved graphics, faster load times, and exclusive content like the Hao’s Special Works vehicle upgrades.
