Saints Steal Victory in Dramatic Final Seconds at Sandy Park

Northampton Saints snatched a stunning 35-28 victory over Exeter Chiefs with a last-gasp try in the dying seconds of a pulsating Premiership clash at Sandy Park.

Fin Smith crossed the line with just five seconds remaining to secure the win for the league leaders, who capitalized on Exeter finishing the match with only 14 men after two late yellow cards.

The match exploded into life from the opening whistle, with Exeter racing to a 14-7 lead within the first 15 minutes. Immanuel Feyi-Waboso scored after just 79 seconds, followed quickly by Will Rigg's powerful close-range effort. Northampton responded through scrum-half Alex Mitchell to keep themselves in contention.

As the first half progressed, Northampton gradually imposed their attacking game on the contest. Just before halftime, Ollie Sleightholme finished in the corner after a clever long pass from Fin Smith, leveling the scores at 14-14.

Exeter regained control in the second half when Campbell Ridl scored their third try with 21 minutes remaining. However, the momentum shifted dramatically when Feyi-Waboso received a yellow card, and within a minute, George Furbank had crossed to tie the game at 21-21.

The drama intensified in the final ten minutes. After Ridl was sin-binned, leaving Exeter with 13 men, Northampton replacement Henry Pollock forced his way over to give Saints the lead. Exeter responded with a remarkable try from Paul Brown-Bampoe, who charged down a kick and scored, with Henry Slade's conversion leveling the scores once more.

Just as the match appeared headed for a second draw between the sides this season, Smith produced the decisive moment, securing the bonus-point victory that keeps Northampton at the top of the Premiership table.

"It means Northampton will stay top of the table at the end of this round of games, while Exeter remain fourth," noted match analysts.

The victory showcased Northampton's resilience and attacking threat, while Exeter demonstrated why they remain serious playoff contenders despite the heartbreaking defeat.
