The San Miguel Beermen are reportedly in discussions with American forward Bennie Boatwright following the unexpected absence of their intended import, Justin Patton.
Patton, who was slated to join the team for the upcoming PBA Commissioner's Cup, failed to arrive as scheduled, prompting the Beermen's management to explore alternative options. Boatwright, a 6-foot-10 forward with NBA G League and international experience, has emerged as a potential replacement.
"We are in talks with Bennie Boatwright as a possible reinforcement," a team insider confirmed. "The situation with Justin was unforeseen, and we are moving quickly to secure a competitive import for the conference."
Boatwright, known for his perimeter shooting and versatility, last played for the Birmingham Squadron in the NBA G League, averaging 13.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. His potential addition could bolster San Miguel's frontcourt as they aim to defend their PBA title.
The Beermen are expected to finalize their import decision in the coming days as the Commissioner's Cup approaches.
