SanDisk has unveiled a new officially licensed SSD for the PlayStation 5 that expands storage to a massive 8TB—but the price tag is jaw-dropping. The drive costs nearly $3,000, which is more than three times the price of a PS5 Pro console.
Announced today, the SanDisk Optimus GX Pro 850P NVMe SSD is designed to slot directly into the PS5's internal expansion bay, offering a huge capacity upgrade for gamers who need to store dozens of triple-A titles. However, the premium price reflects the ongoing global memory shortage and rising NAND flash costs.
The SSD supports PCIe Gen4 speeds, ensuring it meets Sony's performance requirements for fast load times and smooth gameplay. It comes with a heatsink pre-installed, making installation straightforward.
While the price may deter most players, serious enthusiasts and content creators might find the value in having all their games available without juggling external drives. The drive is expected to ship later this summer.
