CBS News has fired veteran journalist Scott Pelley, one day after he clashed with the newly appointed executive producer of "60 Minutes."
The confrontation occurred during a staff meeting where Pelley openly criticized the hiring of Nick Bilton, questioning his acceptance of the role amid resistance from longtime staffers. Pelley also took aim at CBS News chief Bari Weiss, accusing her of eroding the culture that made the program a television institution.
The following day, Pelley received a termination letter from CBS News. He had been with the network since 1989, serving as anchor of the "CBS Evening News" and as a correspondent for "60 Minutes" for over two decades.
Pelley's firing is the latest turmoil for the iconic news magazine, which has seen divisions among staff over editorial and management changes following Paramount's merger with Skydance, led by media executive David Ellison.
