Sempre Health, a healthcare startup using behavior-based dynamic pricing to improve medication adherence, has leveraged Hugging Face's Expert Acceleration Program to rapidly develop and deploy an NLP pipeline that automates responses to patient text messages.
Swaraj Banerjee, CTO and co-founder, and Larry Zhang, ML engineer, explained that their platform receives thousands of daily text messages from patients. While a rule-based system handled about 80% of these, they wanted to improve. Using Hugging Face's models and expertise, they built a statistical NLP solution that now automatically handles over 20% of incoming messages.
"The Hugging Face team helped us with everything from getting accurate labels to pointing us to the right models. It would have taken much longer without the program," said Zhang. The new system has significantly reduced low-value work for their patient operations team, greatly improving business scalability.
Banerjee added, "We're a small team just starting to leverage ML. The Expert Acceleration Program expedited our development and allowed us to quickly add AI pipelines without the usual hassle."
