Snap is finally launching its augmented reality glasses for the public. Dubbed Specs, the device is described as "a wearable computer built into see-through augmented reality glasses" and carries a price tag of $2,195. Preorders begin today with a $200 refundable deposit at specs.com, with shipments expected "this fall" in the US, UK, and France.

The launch marks a major milestone for Snap, which first entered the smart glasses arena with its original Spectacles in 2016. Since then, the company has been quietly iterating on AR technology, and Specs represents its most ambitious effort yet. The glasses are designed to overlay digital information onto the real world, offering hands-free access to apps, notifications, and interactive experiences.

While the high price may limit initial adoption, Snap is betting that early adopters and developers will drive interest. The company has not announced any immediate plans for a consumer-friendly lower-cost version, but the move signals its commitment to owning the AR wearable space.
