Soap Star Patrick Muldoon, Beloved 'Days of Our Lives' Actor, Dies Suddenly at 57

The entertainment world is reeling from the sudden passing of actor Patrick Muldoon, best known for his memorable roles on iconic television series like Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place. He was 57 years old.

Muldoon died on April 19 after suffering a heart attack at his home, according to statements from his manager and his sister, Shana Muldoon-Zappa. His partner, Miriam Rothbart, discovered him.

"He was endlessly generous with his poetry, his humor, and his unmistakable presence," close friends told Deadline. "Stylish, charismatic, and full of life, he embraced each day with a full-tilt, rock ’n’ roll spirit."

Muldoon's career began with a guest spot on Who's the Boss? while he was a student and football player at the University of Southern California. He gained wider recognition with a brief arc on Saved by the Bell as Kelly Kapowski's former boyfriend, Jeffrey Hunter.

His breakout role came in 1992 when he originated the character of Austin Reed on the long-running soap Days of Our Lives, a part he would return to over a decade later. He also left a mark as the villainous Richard Hart on Melrose Place in the mid-1990s.

Beyond television, Muldoon appeared in films such as Starship Troopers (1997) and more recently worked alongside Bruce Willis in Deadlock (2021). He also built a prolific career as a producer, with credits including The Tribes of Palos Verdes and The Card Counter. His final film, the thriller Dirty Hands, is slated for release later this year.

Just two days before his death, Muldoon expressed excitement on Instagram about his latest producing project, Kockroach, which had begun filming in Australia.

He is survived by his partner, his parents, his sister, brother-in-law Ahmet Zappa, and his niece and nephew. Known affectionately as "Bobo" to family and friends, he is remembered for his warmth and vibrant spirit.
