Full-back Scott-Morriss faced transportation chaos on Friday when his vehicle malfunctioned, leaving him stranded and unable to reach Southend's team meeting point. With determination, he arranged an unconventional solution: boarding the Bedford Town coach, which was traveling north for their own fixture at South Shields.
Manager Kevin Maher expressed admiration for his skipper's commitment, revealing he had considered resting Scott-Morriss due to a sore hip from midweek training. "He went through planes, trains, and automobiles to get here," Maher told reporters after Southend's impressive 6-2 victory over Halifax Town on Saturday. "He arrived just after dinner on Friday—not too bad timing. His desperation to play showcases his professionalism and character. And he scored again!"
Scott-Morriss' goal at The Shay marked his 17th of the season, matching his total from the previous campaign.
