Darrell Sheets’ ex-wife, Kimber Wuerfel, has spoken out for the first time since the Storage Wars star died in what authorities believe was a suicide on April 22. He was 67.
“I haven’t had the words until now,” Wuerfel wrote in an Instagram post on April 30, alongside a video montage of their time together. “Thank you for all the love, prayers, and condolences, it has meant more than I can say. Darrell gave us so many moments of laughter, connection, and life.”
She said details about a future memorial service will be shared later, adding, “May the memories you hold of him stay close to your heart, as mine will stay with me forever. From our family to yours, thank you.”
The pair divorced in 2016 but reportedly remained close. Sheets was found dead at his home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Police said the case remains under investigation.
His Storage Wars co-star Laura Dotson earlier revealed that Sheets had been dealing with severe cyberbullying. “His family told us that this has been happening for three years,” Dotson told Us Weekly. “Even strong men that you think aren’t gonna get their feelings hurt… Cyberbullying is a real thing. This made him feel less than.”
Dotson described Sheets as “a wonderful, loving person who believed in God.” The show Storage Wars: Back to the Locker Rom dedicated its April 25 episode to his memory.
