Strait of Hormuz Closure to Top Agenda at Trump-Xi Talks, Says Chinese UN Envoy

China's United Nations Ambassador Fu Cong stated that preserving the ceasefire and reopening the Strait of Hormuz are "urgent" priorities that will dominate upcoming discussions between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Fu emphasized the critical importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in the strategic waterway, through which about one-fifth of the world's oil supply transits. He warned that continued closure could have severe consequences for global energy markets and economic stability.

The ambassador's comments come amid heightened tensions in the region following recent attacks on commercial vessels. Fu called on all parties to exercise restraint and work toward a diplomatic solution that would allow the strait to resume normal operations.

"The maintenance of peace and stability in the region is in everyone's interest," Fu said. "China will continue to play a constructive role in facilitating dialogue and de-escalation."
