US police have released surveillance footage showing the suspected gunman at the White House correspondents' dinner charging a security checkpoint while armed with multiple weapons.
The video, released by Donald Trump, depicts the suspect sprinting past metal detectors as security agents draw their weapons. Washington DC police chief Jeffery W Carroll confirmed that officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, and one US Secret Service officer was struck in his protective vest. The officer was hospitalized and is reported to be in good spirits.
The suspect, described by police as a "lone gunman," was not hit by gunfire but was also transported to hospital for evaluation. The incident caused chaos at the prestigious event, with attendees evacuated from the ballroom.
"The suspect had multiple weapons on him when he charged the checkpoint," Carroll stated.
Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the attack.
