The Texas couple who died in a murder-suicide alongside their two young children were not expecting a third baby, contrary to earlier rumors. Houston restaurant owners Matthew and Thy Mitchell were found dead from gunshot wounds in their upscale home earlier this month, along with their 8-year-old daughter Maya and 4-year-old son Max.
Thy's family has confirmed to TMZ that reports claiming she was pregnant are false. Police never made such a statement, and the autopsy report did not indicate pregnancy. The family also stated there was no history of domestic abuse.
The bodies were discovered after a welfare check prompted by the children's babysitter, who went to pick up Maya and Max from school and learned they had not arrived. No one entered the home before police arrived, and the family provided all footage from interior security cameras to authorities.
Matthew and Thy owned two restaurants, Traveler's Table and Traveler's Cart. The family has confirmed that both businesses will continue normal operations. In their memory, the family is establishing the Thy Mai Foundation, while the Texas Restaurant Foundation and the Greater Houston Chapter of the Texas Restaurant Association have created a memorial scholarship.
Traveler's Table gained national attention in 2021 when it was featured on Guy Fieri's Food Network show "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives," with the couple appearing alongside the celebrity chef.
