A minuscule, transparent, and nearly invisible organism has been discovered in a shrimp pond at the Mai Po Nature Reserve in Hong Kong. Measuring only about 1.5 centimeters, the creature had long gone unnoticed in the murky waters of the area, only being identified after years of observation and sample collection.

Detailed in a study published in the journal Zoological Studies, the discovery reveals a new member of an extremely rare group of marine animals. This group includes species known as box jellyfish, but until now little was known about their diversity in regions of Asia. In total, only 49 species of this type have been recorded worldwide.
