In a touching moment on the April 14 episode of Today With Jenna & Sheinelle, host Sheinelle Jones received an unexpected visit from her three children, who surprised her on set to celebrate the release of her new book, Through Mom's Eyes. The emotional reunion brought tears to the eyes of everyone present.
Jenna Bush Hager orchestrated the surprise, telling her co-host, "We couldn't celebrate this book or this day without the three people to whom you dedicated. So Kayin, Clara and Uche, come on out." The teens—16-year-old Kayin and 13-year-old twins Clara and Uche Jr.—emerged holding a large bouquet of flowers and shared a heartfelt embrace with their mother.
"Words can’t even describe it. I’m so happy for you, Mom," Kayin told Sheinelle as she grew emotional. "You’ve worked on this since quarantine. We’ve had the ups and downs. We’ve obviously gone through so much, and I’m so happy for you."
Uche Jr. praised his mother's character, saying, "I feel like her compassion and kindness to everybody she’s around just has such a great effect on everybody." Clara presented Sheinelle with a framed quote in the style of her book cover, which moved the host to exclaim, "Oh my goodness. How special is this?"
The surprise held deep significance for Sheinelle, who has been open about her grief journey following the death of her husband, Uche Ojeh, in May 2025 after a battle with brain cancer. She has spoken about the challenges of balancing grief with daily life, telling People in January, "Every day, it's like swimming through mud. Even just to do normal things... doing that when you're grieving is very difficult."
Her new book, Through Mom's Eyes, features life lessons from the mothers of celebrities like Lady Gaga, Matthew McConaughey, and Steph Curry. Sheinelle described it as "my love letter to mothers" in an Instagram post announcing its release.
The on-air reunion highlighted the strong bond between Sheinelle and her children as they continue to navigate life after loss, celebrating milestones together with love and resilience.
