Toulouse delivered a masterclass in attacking rugby, scoring nine tries to emphatically end Bristol Bears' Champions Cup campaign with a 59-26 victory in the last 16.

Bristol captain Fitz Harding gave the visitors a dream start with an early try from close range, but that proved to be the high point for the English side. Toulouse responded with relentless pressure, building a commanding 40-7 halftime lead that effectively decided the contest.

The French giants showcased their attacking prowess throughout the match. Hooker Peato Mauvaka and centre Kalvin Gourgues each scored two first-half tries, while winger Matthis Lebel and English flanker Jack Willis also crossed the line before the break.

Toulouse demonstrated their championship credentials with a devastating first-half performance that left Bristol chasing shadows.

Lebel extended the lead just seconds after the restart with his second try, and winger Teddy Thomas added two more scores in the second half. France full-back Thomas Ramos was nearly flawless with the boot, converting seven of Toulouse's nine tries.

Bristol showed resilience in the second half, drawing the period 19-19 and scoring three late tries through Kalaveti Ravouvou (on his 50th appearance for the club), James Williams, and Noah Heward. However, the damage had already been done in the opening forty minutes.

The victory sets up a potential quarter-final clash with last season's champions Bordeaux Begles, who face Leicester Tigers on Sunday. Toulouse, who currently lead France's Top 14 by 12 points, will be confident of progressing further in the competition.

For Bristol, the heavy defeat marks the end of their European campaign. The Bears must now focus on securing a Premiership semi-final spot, where they currently trail fourth-placed Exeter by seven points with six games remaining.

The match also saw concern for Bristol centre Benhard Janse van Rensburg, who left the field early in the second half with facial injuries following a high tackle by Toulouse fly-half Romain Ntamack. The incident earned Ntamack a yellow card but didn't affect the match's outcome.

Despite the second-half fightback, Bristol will be disappointed with their defensive performance against a Toulouse side that demonstrated why they're considered one of Europe's most dangerous attacking teams.
