A construction worker has died after sustaining severe injuries while building the stage for Shakira's upcoming "Todo Mundo No Rio" concert on Copacabana Beach. The incident occurred on April 26, just days before the scheduled May 2 performance.
Event organizers confirmed the tragedy in a social media statement, expressing their condolences and promising full support to the worker's family and the contracting company. The local fire brigade reported that the worker suffered crushing injuries to his lower limbs from a lifting system. Despite immediate on-site care and rapid transport to Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
Witness Antonio Marcos Ferreira dos Santos described the scene: "Out of nowhere, we saw people running, and when we looked, the structure was on the ground. People were saying that a man had gotten trapped underneath."
Earlier that day, Shakira had posted on Instagram expressing excitement for the concert, calling Copacabana Beach the "altar of the planet." She has not yet publicly commented on the accident.
