Travis Kelce is clearly ready for married life. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end couldn't help but smile when his fiancée, pop superstar Taylor Swift, was casually referred to as his "wife" during a recent interview.
The amusing exchange went down on the April 1 episode of New Heights, the popular podcast Travis co-hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce. While chatting with University of Cincinnati Bearcats basketball coach Jerrod Calhoun, the 36-year-old NFL star joked that he still had "one semester left of eligibility" to hit the college hoops court.
Calhoun was quick to play along, offering to help the athlete secure a lucrative Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) sponsorship. "We'll get you a good NIL deal, man," the coach told him, before adding the ultimate caveat: "You gotta ask your wife."
Rather than correcting the marital title, a grinning Kelce fully embraced the joke. Pretending to consult the Grammy winner, he quipped, "'Sweetie, I’m going back to school.'"
While a pivot to college basketball is off the table, the three-time Super Bowl champion's actual athletic future is set in stone. Kelce recently squashed ongoing retirement rumors by confirming he will return to the Chiefs for a 14th NFL season. He admitted on The Pat McAfee Show that while he needed a brief moment to let his body and emotions settle after a grueling championship run, his passion for the sport remains unmatched. "I'm still in love with going to work, putting on the pads, grinding it out and playing the game," he explained.
As for the real-life wedding, Kelce and Swift are keeping the details under strict lock and key, and their famously loyal inner circle is following suit. When musician Niall Horan was recently pressed by a radio host about whether he had scored an invite to the high-profile nuptials, he expertly dodged the inquiry.
"I know what you're getting at," Horan teased, vaguely noting that he has simply "been invited to a few weddings."
