Trump Confirms Officer Saved by Vest in WH Correspondents' Dinner Shooting

President Trump addressed the nation Saturday evening following a shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, providing new details on the incident that sent shockwaves through the political world.

Speaking to reporters, Trump described the suspect as a "very sick" individual armed with multiple weapons who was swiftly taken down by Secret Service members he praised as "brave." He confirmed that one officer was shot at close range with a high-powered firearm but survived thanks to his bulletproof vest.

The president also shared footage of the shooting and a photo of the suspect's arrest on Truth Social, calling for calm and unity.

"This is not the first time Republicans have faced a would-be assassin in recent years," Trump said, urging all Americans to resolve their differences peacefully. He noted that despite the violence, there was a "tremendous amount of love and coming together" at the dinner.
