President Donald Trump announced Friday that the federal government has delivered a "final proposal" to rescue Spirit Airlines, which has been struggling financially. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said the administration is still evaluating the plan but will only proceed if it represents a good deal.
"We’re looking at it, but if we can’t make a good deal — no institutions been able to do it. I said I’d like to save the jobs," Trump stated.
He indicated that an announcement could come later Friday or Saturday. The president emphasized that the goal is to preserve jobs at the budget carrier, which has faced mounting losses and failed merger attempts.
Spirit Airlines has been under financial pressure for months, and no private institution has stepped forward with a viable rescue plan. The government’s final offer could determine the airline’s fate.
This development follows reports that Trump personally intervened to explore options for the carrier, which employs thousands of workers across the United States.
