Trump's Portrait to Appear on Special Edition US Passports for 250th Anniversary

The White House has announced that a limited number of US passports will feature a portrait of President Donald Trump, part of the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence this July.

First reported by Fox News and confirmed by the BBC, the special edition passports will be available to any American citizen who applies for a passport at the Washington Passport Agency, while supplies last.

A render from the State Department shows Trump's image surrounded by the text of the Declaration of Independence, the American flag, and the president's signature in gold.

"President Trump's new patriotic passport design provides yet another great way Americans can join in the spectacular celebrations for America's 250th birthday," a White House spokesperson said.

The spokesperson listed other anniversary events, including the UFC250 Fight, the Great American State Fair, and the Freedom250 Grand Prix.

Current US passports feature historical scenes like the Moon landing and symbols such as the Statue of Liberty. It is unclear whether citizens can opt out of the special design.

This move is part of a broader effort by the administration to associate Trump's name and image with government programs and landmarks. The US Mint plans a commemorative gold coin with Trump's likeness, and Trump is set to become the first sitting president to have his signature on US banknotes.

Additionally, the Kennedy Center's board voted to rename the venue the Trump-Kennedy Center, sparking criticism from the late President John F. Kennedy's family. The White House also unveiled plans for a 250-foot victory arch dubbed the "Arc de Trump," which received preliminary federal approval despite public opposition.

Trump has also made permanent changes to the White House, demolishing the East Wing to build a ballroom, leading to a lawsuit from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
