Two individuals have been taken into custody following a brazen fuel theft incident in Payatas, Quezon City, where they allegedly filled their vehicle with gasoline and fled without payment.
According to authorities, the suspects were arrested after a swift investigation into the reported "gas-and-run" operation at a local service station. The incident, which occurred recently, involved the pair driving away after refueling without settling the bill.
Police officials stated that the arrests were made possible through coordination with the station's management and review of security footage. The suspects are now facing charges related to theft and estafa (fraud).
"This serves as a warning to others who might attempt similar acts. We are intensifying patrols and surveillance around fuel stations to prevent such crimes," a police spokesperson remarked.
Local residents have expressed relief over the arrests, noting that such incidents have been a recurring concern in the area. The service station involved has since reinforced its security protocols to deter future thefts.
The case remains under investigation as authorities work to determine if the suspects are linked to other similar offenses in the metro.
