Tyler Baltierra is opening up about the current state of his relationship with his and Catelynn Lowell's biological daughter, Carly, who was placed for adoption in 2009. On the April 27 episode of the Cake For Dinner podcast, Tyler admitted, "As far as our relationship goes, we don't really have [one]."

He explained that after Carly's adoptive parents, Brandon and Teresa Davis, closed the adoption in 2023, he and Catelynn created an email address for their daughter. "We figured if we set up an email for her, and write to it, and then one day if she ever wants it, we can give her the login and the password," Tyler said. "And she can kind of just go through the email herself."

The couple sends messages when they're "thinking about her" or want to share photos of their younger children—Nova, 11, Vaeda, 7, and Rya, 4. However, Tyler emphasized that it's up to Carly to decide how involved she wants to be. "That's up to her. Me and Cate, we've accepted the fact that she might get older and not want anything to do with us," he said. "She might not even like us, which is OK. ... As her birth parent, my duty is to be there to answer the questions she has as an adoptee."

Tyler previously expressed regret about the adoption, noting on Teen Mom: The Next Chapter that they didn't know they would later become financially stable and have resources to support their mental health. Despite the challenges, the couple remains hopeful for a future connection with Carly, whatever form it may take.
