"This unified approach reduces the friction of training models to use diverse tools, accelerating the development of versatile agents," said one of the lead authors.
The method abstracts tool interfaces into a common protocol, allowing language models to call functions without custom fine-tuning for each tool. Early tests show improved performance on tasks like data retrieval and automation.
This breakthrough could simplify the creation of AI assistants that handle everything from scheduling to complex data analysis, without requiring extensive retooling.
