A dilapidated residential wall in Linkou District, New Taipei City, collapsed early this morning, crushing three parked vehicles and prompting owners to seek compensation.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Zhongzheng Road. Police suspect that days of heavy rain weakened the structure of an old, unoccupied house, causing the wall to topple onto cars parked nearby. The vehicles suffered extensive damage, with shattered windshields and broken windows.
In a separate weather-related incident, rockfalls on the Taiwan Railways Pingxi Line disrupted service between Jingtong and Shifen stations earlier today. Trains were temporarily halted while crews cleared the tracks.
Authorities are investigating the wall collapse and urge property owners to inspect and maintain vacant buildings, especially during the rainy season.
