John Nolan, the esteemed British actor known for his roles in Christopher Nolan's "Batman" films and the TV series "Person of Interest," has died at the age of 87. His passing was reported by the Stratford-Upon-Avon Herald on Saturday, though no cause of death has been disclosed.

Nolan was a pivotal figure in the Nolan family's Hollywood journey, serving as uncle to acclaimed director Christopher Nolan and producer Jonathan Nolan. He famously portrayed Douglas Fredericks, a Wayne Enterprises board member, in "Batman Begins" (2005) and "The Dark Knight Rises" (2012). His collaboration with his nephews spanned decades, beginning with a role in Christopher's debut feature "Following" in 1998 and later appearing in the war epic "Dunkirk" (2017).

On television, Nolan played former MI6 agent John Greer in the second season of Jonathan Nolan's sci-fi drama "Person of Interest" in 2013. He remained involved with the series, contributing behind the camera for over two dozen episodes through its final season.

Christopher Nolan honored his uncle in a statement, saying:

"My uncle John was the first artist I knew, and he taught me more than anyone about the search for truth in acting and the joys of creative achievement. I miss him terribly, but take great comfort in my memories of John, particularly those of working together."

Born in the UK, Nolan built a distinguished career on both stage and screen. After training at London's Drama Centre and performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company, he landed his breakthrough role as the lead in the 1970 BBC miniseries "Daniel Deronda." Other notable credits include scientist Geoff Hardcastle in BBC's "Doomwatch" (1970-1971) and a 2024 appearance in "Dune: Prophecy."

A dedicated theater actor, Nolan performed at London's Richmond Theatre and with the Royal Court Company, maintaining a passion for live performance throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife, actress Kim Hartman, their children Miranda and Tom, and two grandchildren. The entertainment community mourns the loss of a versatile performer whose legacy extends through his family's cinematic contributions and his own substantial body of work.
