In a recent episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, historian Victor Davis Hanson laid out a script for former President Donald Trump to follow after declaring victory over Iran next week. Hanson’s remarks come amid escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran, with Trump reportedly preparing to announce a decisive outcome.
Hanson argued that Trump should frame the victory as a restoration of deterrence, emphasizing that his administration’s policies had prevented a wider war. He advised Trump to highlight his earlier withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal as a key strategic move that weakened Tehran’s leverage. The historian also suggested that Trump call for a new, enforceable agreement that addresses Iran’s ballistic missile program and proxy forces.
"Trump needs to project strength but also offer a path to peace," Hanson said. "He should say, 'We won without losing a single American life, and now it's time for Iran to choose: negotiate or face consequences.'"
Hanson warned that any declaration must avoid appearing triumphant or humiliating Iran, which could provoke further instability. Instead, Trump should focus on the restoration of American credibility under his leadership and contrast it with the previous administration's approach.
