Victoria Beckham has publicly addressed the ongoing family feud with her son Brooklyn Beckham, marking her first comments since he made serious allegations against his parents earlier this year.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal published April 16, the former Spice Girl stated, "We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be. And you know, we’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. And you know, that’s all I really want to say about it."
This response comes after Brooklyn, 26, made explosive claims about his parents' behavior in a January Instagram Story, declaring, "I do not want to reconcile with my family."
"I'm not being controlled, I'm standing up for myself for the first time in my life," Brooklyn wrote. "For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into."
Brooklyn alleged the family conflict began before his 2022 wedding to actress Nicola Peltz Beckham, claiming David and Victoria "pressured and attempted to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name." He said their insistence on signing before the wedding affected their financial arrangements and permanently damaged their relationship.
The model also accused his mother of canceling Nicola's wedding dress "in the eleventh hour" and hijacking his planned first dance with his wife during the reception.
"My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song," he alleged. "In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me."
Brooklyn claimed his wife has been "consistently disrespected" by his family despite their efforts to reconcile, stating, "My wife has been consistently disrespected by my family, no matter how hard we've tried to come together as one."
The estrangement appears to have reached a breaking point, with Brooklyn noting his anxiety has disappeared since distancing himself from his family.
"I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared," he explained. "I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose, and have found peace and relief."
Victoria previously commented on the wedding in October 2022, calling it "a beautiful wedding" and adding, "As a mother, to see my son so happy means so much. What more can you ask for?"
The family rift became more visible when Nicola did not attend Victoria's 50th birthday party in April 2024, though she posted birthday wishes on social media, explaining she was spending time with her grandmother who passed away less than a month later.
