MANILA, Philippines – The Visayas power grid has been placed under a yellow alert again on Monday afternoon, as three major coal-fired plants in the region remain unavailable.
The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) announced that the yellow alert would be in effect from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
As of 8 a.m., the grid's available capacity stood at 2,664 megawatts (MW), while peak demand was at 2,483 MW.
A yellow alert is issued when the power reserve is insufficient to cover the loss of the largest generating unit. The Luzon and Mindanao grids are expected to operate normally on Monday.
