Vrabel Seeks Counseling After Scandal: 'I Want to Be the Best Version of Me'

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel is entering counseling following a scandal involving former journalist Dianna Russini. In a statement released Wednesday, Vrabel announced he would attend counseling this weekend and spend time with his family outside Massachusetts, causing him to miss the third day of the NFL Draft on Saturday.

"I have always wanted to lead by example, and I believe this is what I have to do to be the best husband, father and coach that I possibly can be," Vrabel said. "This is not an easy thing for me to admit, but it is one that I know will make me a better person."

The scandal erupted after photos surfaced of Vrabel hugging and holding hands with Russini at an Arizona resort. On Tuesday, Vrabel addressed the situation for the first time, calling it a "personal and private matter" and noting he had "difficult, yet positive conversations" with his family and the team.

Vrabel reiterated his commitment to his wife Jen, their two sons, and the Patriots organization, promising to give them "the best version of me that I can possibly give them." The story was first reported by the New York Post's Page Six.
