Wales Captain Jac Morgan Honors Late Cousin with Stellar Performance for Ospreys

Wales captain Jac Morgan delivered an emotional and powerful performance for Ospreys just days after the sudden death of his cousin and best friend, Harri Morgan. The 26-year-old flanker was named man of the match in Ospreys' 21-17 United Rugby Championship victory over Sharks at Brewery Field in Bridgend.

Morgan played in a specially embroidered jersey honoring his cousin and scored a try while making significant contributions in both attack and defense. Despite the personal tragedy, he declared himself available for the match and led his team to a crucial win.

Ospreys head coach Mark Jones praised Morgan's leadership, saying, "He led from the front. He had a tough week and he led exceptionally well and the players got behind him as well. What a way to perform in such a big game as a captain. He was tremendous."

Following the match, Morgan posted a heartfelt tribute on social media, writing, "This week I suddenly lost my cousin and best friend Harri. He meant the world to us as a family. He loved so much about life, but his greatest joy was playing rugby for Brynamman. Yesterday I played my game in honour and memory of Harri. It felt important to go out there and make him proud, playing the game that he loved."

Brynamman Rugby Club, where Harri Morgan served as vice-captain, released a statement saying the loss left "a hole that will never truly be filled," describing him as "a true warrior, immensely talented, and fiercely dedicated."

The performance marked a strong return for Morgan, who has recovered from a dislocated shoulder suffered while scoring for Wales against Argentina last autumn. The injury prevented him from captaining Wales during the Six Nations tournament.

Morgan has just three games remaining with Ospreys before his planned move to Gloucester for the 2026-27 season. His final matches include a Welsh derby against Cardiff, a home fixture against Scarlets, and a trip to face Leinster.
