Warrington Wolves Dominate Leigh Leopards to Claim Super League Summit

Warrington Wolves surged to the top of the Betfred Super League table with a commanding 42-6 victory over Leigh Leopards on Friday night.

Matty Ashton led the charge with a brace of tries, while Josh Smith, James Bentley, Joe Philbin, George Williams, and Sam Powell also crossed the whitewash. Marc Sneyd was flawless with the boot, converting seven of eight attempts to orchestrate the comprehensive win.

The victory means Warrington move top of the table on points difference, with Wire, Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, and St Helens all locked on 10 points.

Warrington set the tone early, with Smith scoring within two minutes off a Sneyd cross-field kick. Ashton intercepted a loose pass to stroll in for his first try just ten minutes later. Despite a disallowed try for Toby King, Bentley powered over for the third, and Philbin added a fourth before halftime from a Sneyd grubber kick.

Williams extended the lead after the break with a clever change of direction, and Ashton completed his double in the corner. Leigh's sole response came from Adam Cook, who scored and converted a consolation try after 63 minutes. Powell rounded off the scoring late on, with Sneyd adding the extras.

Warrington's lineup featured Thewlis, Ashton, King, Hopoate, Smith, Williams, Sneyd, Thomas, Walker, Byrne, Stone, Bentley, and Currie, with interchanges from Harrison, Powell, Crowther, and Philbin. Leigh fielded O'Brien, Senior, Alick-Wiencke, Brough, Charnley, Cook, Lam, Pene, McNamara, Mulhern, Halton, Trout, and Liu, with Ofahengaue, Brogan, Davis, and Horne on the bench. Marcus Griffiths officiated the match.
