Warwickshire Pride Files Complaint Against Council Leader Over Library Book Remarks

Reform UK's Warwickshire County Council leader George Finch is facing a new code of conduct complaint from Warwickshire Pride after stating that books featuring "contested gender ideology" should be removed from public libraries.

Finch said he had received complaints from residents about transgender-related children's books and argued that libraries should remain politically neutral and family-friendly. He emphasized that material involving sex, gender, or identity should be presented in an age-appropriate manner.

Warwickshire Pride condemned the comments, saying they further marginalized the LGBT+ community and treated their identities as a political ideology. The group accused Finch of promoting censorship and called on him to withdraw his statement.

Reform councillor Mike Bannister noted there was no evidence that library staff had promoted specific literature and promised the new policy would be discussed with the library team.

Other complaints against Finch, including one about his portrayal of a political rival on social media, remain under investigation.
