Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Warzone will cease support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles later this year, pushing players to upgrade to current-gen hardware. The free-to-play battle royale game will be removed from PS4 and Xbox One storefronts starting June 4, and will become unplayable on those platforms after the conclusion of Black Ops 7 Season 6.

Existing Warzone players on older consoles will need to migrate to a PS5, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S to continue playing. Activision stated that the move is necessary to focus on “new technology and innovations” that cannot be supported on last-gen hardware. The company assured that progress and purchases will carry over to current-gen versions of the game.

The decision marks the end of an era for Warzone, which launched in 2020 and has been one of the most popular battle royale titles. Players on PS4 and Xbox One still have a few months to make the switch before support is fully dropped.
